How to use a fire extinguisher correctly?

How to use a fire extinguisher correctly?

Step 1: Preparation and Judgment Before Use (Critical!)

Before picking up a fire extinguisher, quickly make the following judgments:
Assess the fire intensity: If the fire has spread or is extremely intense, abandon firefighting immediately, evacuate quickly, and call the fire department.
Ensure your own safety: Ensure there is an escape route to the fire and that you are upwind.
Adhere to the principle of "people before things": Ensure your own and others' safety first. Do not put yourself in great danger to save property.
Remember: Saving lives always comes first.

Step 2: Operational Tips—"Lift, Pull, Grip, Press"

1. Lift: Lift the fire extinguisher vertically and steadily remove it from the bracket.
2. Pull: Remove the safety pin. This pin is a metal bar connecting the two handles. Pulling it out firmly activates the fire extinguisher.
3. Grip: Hold the front end of the nozzle (not the metal part to prevent frostbite) and aim the nozzle at the base of the flame.
4. Press
Press the handle (or handle ring) to release the extinguishing agent.
Aiming: Always aim at the base of the flames or the source of the burning material, not the upper or middle portion of the flames.

Step 3: Firefighting Techniques and Precautions

Maintain Distance: Begin spraying 2-3 meters from the flames (if operating outdoors, stand upwind).
Sweeping: Move the nozzle left and right, sweeping horizontally from near to far, like sweeping the floor.
Position: Always position yourself upwind to avoid being blown in by smoke and heat, and to ensure that the extinguishing agent effectively reaches the source of the fire.

When Should You Not Attempt to Extinguish a Fire?

If any of the following situations occur, abandon firefighting immediately and evacuate quickly!
The fire is small and confined to one location (such as a garbage can or small appliance fire).
Do not attempt to extinguish a fire in the following situations:
The fire has spread beyond your height.
The smoke is thick, obstructing vision or causing breathing difficulties.
