A portable fire extinguisher is a fire-fighting device that quickly extinguishes an initial fire through physical or chemical means. Its working principle is mainly based on the following three mechanisms:
Suffocation extinguishing: By releasing fire extinguishing agents (such as dry powder, carbon dioxide) to isolate oxygen, the combustion reaction cannot continue. For example, a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher will quickly vaporize when sprayed, reducing the oxygen concentration to below 15%, achieving a fire extinguishing effect.
Cooling extinguishing: Water-based fire extinguishers extinguish fires by lowering the surface temperature of the burning object to below the ignition point. Experimental data show that 1 liter of water evaporation can absorb 2257 kilojoules of heat, effectively blocking the combustion chain reaction.
Chemical inhibition: Active ingredients such as ammonium phosphate in dry powder fire extinguishers can react with free radicals produced by combustion to interrupt the combustion process. This fire extinguishing method is particularly effective for liquid and gas fires.
Portable fire extinguishers are mainly used for the following five types of initial fires:
Solid material fires (Class A): such as paper, wood, etc., suitable for water-type, foam or dry powder fire extinguishers
Liquid fires (Class B): including oils, solvents, etc., it is recommended to use foam, dry powder or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers
Gas fires (Class C): such as natural gas, liquefied gas, etc., need to use special dry powder fire extinguishers
Electrical fires (Class E): Carbon dioxide or dry powder fire extinguishers are the safest
Kitchen fires (Class F): Special wet chemical fire extinguishers can effectively extinguish cooking oil fires
Structural design advantages:
Lightweight material (aluminum alloy/composite material) makes a 1kg fire extinguisher only equivalent to the weight of two cans of cola
Ergonomic grip design, spray distance can reach 3-5 meters
Visual pressure gauge design, keep track of equipment status at any time
Easy to operate: fire extinguishing can be completed in four steps of "pull pin-aim-press-sweep"
Low maintenance cost: conventional products only need to replace the agent every 3-5 years
Multi-function protection: some models have both fire extinguishing and self-defense functions
Environmental requirements
Temperature: It is recommended to store in an environment of 0℃-40℃, avoid direct sunlight
Humidity: ventilated place with relative humidity not exceeding 85%
Location: conspicuous place with convenient access, no more than 1.5 meters above the ground
Special requirements: The storage temperature of carbon dioxide fire extinguishers shall not be lower than -10℃
Key points for regular inspection
Check the pressure gauge pointer in the green zone every month
Check the safety pin and seal every quarter
Weigh and check every year (dry powder fire extinguisher needs to be replaced if the weight decreases by more than 10%)
Have a water pressure test by a professional organization every 3 years
Storage taboos
Do not place near heat sources or corrosive substances
Do not place upside down or horizontally (except for specially designed products)
Avoid storing with sharp objects
Protect where children can easily reach
