1. In the early stage of a fire, blocking the spread of the fire
Indoor fire hydrants are the "first responders" in the early stage of a fire and can be quickly activated before the arrival of professional fire brigades. The design of the indoor fire hydrant system requires that at least two full water columns cover any point in the building at the same time (the distance between fire hydrants in general buildings is ≤30m) to ensure that there are no dead angles for fire fighting.
The water column sprayed by the water gun needs to penetrate the 380mm aperture (90% of the water volume is concentrated), deeply impact the core of the fire source, and have both cooling and oxygen isolation functions.
Compared with fire extinguishers, fire hydrants are more effective when the fire is fierce, especially for the occurrence of solid combustible fires (such as furniture and storage materials). Fire hydrants can effectively extinguish fires and reduce casualties of people and property.
2. Provide water sources to make up for rescue limitations
When the height of a building exceeds 24m, the water supply capacity of the fire truck is limited, and the indoor fire hydrant system becomes the main fire fighting force, which needs to independently undertake fire fighting and rescue tasks. The system uses a closed-loop water supply network constructed by fire water pools, water pumps, and high-level water tanks to ensure that fire hydrants can maintain water pressure when the power is cut off on the floor. In some water-scarce areas (such as the karst landform area in Guizhou), rooftop water storage containers (such as stainless steel sealed barrels) can be used to supply water through gravity or booster pumps to solve the problem of no stable water source.
3. Help people evacuate
Fire hydrants are usually set in conspicuous locations such as corridors and stairwells, which are not only convenient for the public to use, but also avoid blocking escape routes. Residential fire hydrants are mostly located on stair rest platforms, taking into account both concealment and ease of use. Fire hydrants are prohibited in smoke-proof stairwells to prevent smoke from invading safe passages when opening the door to take water. Fire hydrants must be installed in the front room of the fire elevator for firefighters to quickly establish fire-fighting bases. Rooftop fire hydrants support high-altitude rescue, such as cooperating with apron operations or fighting fires in equipment rooms on the top floor.
4. Adapt to the characteristics of buildings and provide customized protection
Residential buildings: Residential buildings less than 27m can be equipped with dry vertical pipes (without hoses) to reduce costs; commercial outlets must ensure that a single water gun covers all households.
Special spaces: Lightweight partition walls plus independent brackets to fix fire hydrant boxes; when installing columns, control the width of the box to ensure smooth passages.
Small places can use lightweight fire hoses or hose reels, and the water consumption is not included in the total amount, which can be used flexibly and in compliance with regulations.
