How does a vertical sprinkler head work? How effectively does it spray water mist onto the ground?
The working principle of vertical nozzles is mainly based on liquid fluid mechanics and the fine design of the internal structure of the nozzle. When the water supply system is started, the water flow generated by the water pump or pressure water tank passes through the water supply branch pipe and flows continuously to the vertical sprinkler head. At this time, the water flow maintains a certain flow rate and pressure in the pipe. When water enters a vertical sprinkler, it first encounters the water inlet inside the sprinkler, which is a specially designed channel that guides the water to flow along a predetermined path.
The water then passes through a series of precisely calculated channels and holes. These channels and holes are not simply perforated, but are optimized and designed based on the principles of fluid mechanics. Their function is not only to let the water flow through, but more importantly, to change the flow speed and direction of the water flow, causing the water flow to rotate and collide inside the nozzle, thereby increasing the turbulence of the water flow.
Under the action of turbulence, the water flow is effectively cut into fine water droplets, forming what we call water mist. This mist consists of a large number of tiny water droplets that are better dispersed in the air, thereby increasing the contact area with the fire source.
The design of the vertical sprinkler head not only considers the cutting and atomization of the water flow, but also pays special attention to the distribution and spray angle of the water flow. Since the vertical sprinkler head is installed vertically on the water supply branch pipe, it can spray most of the water mist downward to the ground, forming a larger coverage area. At the same time, the design of the sprinkler head also allows part of the water flow to be sprayed upward to the suspended ceiling, which can extinguish the fire source below the suspended ceiling and prevent the fire from spreading upward.
In addition, in order to cope with different fire extinguishing needs and environmental conditions, vertical sprinkler heads are usually equipped with adjustment devices inside. These adjustment devices can manually or automatically adjust the flow rate and spray angle of the water flow to suit the size and location of the fire. For example, when the fire is large, the flow rate of the water can be increased by adjusting the device to improve the fire extinguishing effect; when the fire is small or precise fire extinguishing is required, the flow rate can be reduced or the injection angle can be adjusted to achieve more precise fire extinguishing control.
